CAP+ACTTI Acute heart failure, MCS and Transplant STUDY DAY

What is it?

Join us for a comprehensive one-day lecture and workshop-based course exploring the theoretical journey of an acute heart failure patient; from initial diagnosis, management and referral, through to mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation.

Designed for generalists and cardiac/transplant specialists alike (and physicians and nurses at all levels) our interactive program blends foundational knowledge with the latest evidence, therapies and real world experience in ECMO, mechanical circulatory support, acute heart failure management, and transplant pathways.

The morning lectures are outlined in the pdf below, while the afternoon workshops will feature

  • ECMO cannulation simulation
  • Cardiac Advanced Life Support (CALS) simulation
  • Pulmonary artery catheters
  • Interactive case based discussions
  • Intensive care echo

When?

9 am to 5pm on Friday 4th July 2025.

Where?

The Sherman Education Centre, 4th floor, Southwark Wing, Guy's Hospital

Nearest tube and National Rail station is London Bridge

The morning lectures will be recorded for later viewing.

Who is it for?

Through expert-delivered lectures, case-based discussions and hands-on workshops, participants will gain practical insights into patient selection, device management, complications, and interdisciplinary coordination.

Whether you're looking to deepen your understanding or enhance your clinical practice, this course offers a unique opportunity to bridge theory and practice in the management of acute and decompensated heart failure.

Will there be CPD points?

Yes, we are in the process of applying for CPD points from the Royal College of Anaesthetists and will be aiming for 3 points each for the morning and afternoon sessions, totalling 6 points for the full day. We will update this section when the CPD points are confirmed.

Who is running the course?

The course is jointly organised on by us (CAP) and ACTTI, the Association of Cardiothoracic Transplant Intensivists.

Our speakers and faculty are experts in their respective fields and hail from world-renowned centres around the UK. See below for our list of morning speakers.

Will it be any good?

While this is our first time running this exact course, both CAP and ACTTI run very highly-rated educational meetings on a regular basis. Our faculty are all incredibly knowledgable and great educators.

We think this will be a fantastic day with lots of excellent learning opportunities and great snacks.
